英文作文部分,由三幅連貫圖畫出發,張武昌表示首重能點出問題的核心,並找出解決的方法,發展出一個合理的結局,若能加入適當格言會更好。譬如有考生引用「better safe than sorry」,提醒走路不看路的嚴重問題。由於3C產品入題,為避免城鄉差距,大考中心說明不一定要寫出「smartphone」或「MP3」,以「玩具」和「listen to music」代替即可。
然而英文程度落差的現象依然十分明顯,甚至有學生直接中英文交叉,寫出「four 面 eight 方(四面八方)」、「oil door 踩到底(油門踩到底)」等令人搖頭的笑話,文末還特別註明希望閱卷老師能看得懂。對於較弱勢的學生,教育部尚需投入更多的努力推動補救教學。
